07 Dec Everything you need to know about the Year of Young People 2018
As a major event for the Year of Young People 2018 we want to raise the game of the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards, to bring in brilliant acts, higher profile celebrities, to give young people the chance to help organise the awards and give more young people the chance to attend and get the awards evening back on television so everyone in Scotland can join in. In 2018, the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards are set to be bigger and better than ever, but what is Year of Young People 2018, and why is it so important?
Year of Young People 2018 is an opportunity to celebrate the amazing young personalities, talents, and achievers that make up Scotland. It’s all about inspiring our nation through its young people’s ideas, attitudes and ambitions.
Throughout 2015 and 2016, an in-depth engagement process was undertaken by young people to recommend the aim, objectives and priority themes for the Year of Young People 2018. All activity delivered through Year of Young People 2018 has been developed with a clear focus on meeting these aims and objectives, and importantly through co-design of that activity with young people, ensuring they are at the heart of the year.
Year of Young People 2018 aims to inspire Scotland through its young people, celebrating their achievements, valuing their contribution to communities and creating new opportunities for them to shine locally, nationally and globally. This is underpinned by a number of core objectives;
- Provide a platform for young people to have their views heard and acted upon
- Showcase the amazing talents of young people through events and media
- Develop better understanding, co-operation and respect between generations
- Recognise the impact of teachers, youth workers and other supporting adults on young people’s lives
- Provide opportunities for young people to express themselves through culture, sport and other activities
Year of Young People 2018 will be based around six key themes which were developed by young people during the consultation process; Culture, Education, Equality and Discrimination, Enterprise and Regeneration, Health and Wellbeing and Participation. The Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2018, as a major of event for this year will meet the aim of recognising the incredible achievements and stories of young people, and do so through our award categories with the Year of Young People 2018 themes in mind.
